Kurt West Garner

Kurt West Garner’s roots go deep in the Hoosier state, following a lineage that stretches back before statehood in 1816. The Garners lived in Plymouth from 1997-2009 where they restored two homes, then purchased and restored a farmstead north of Plymouth, where they reside.

Kurt has an extensive resume of civic engagement in Marshall County, culminating with elected office on Plymouth’s City Council and the Marshall County Board of Commissioners, and was appointed Marshall County Historian. He is also heavily engaged with non-profits in the state relating to tourism development and the network of Indiana’s state scenic byways.

Garner began his professional career in 1996 as a project manager with a small firm in Plymouth, Indiana, then began his business, KW Garner Consulting & Design, in 2008. It focuses on preservation, design, and research throughout Indiana. This has led to projects in nearly all of Indiana’s 92 counties and include over 300 National Register of Historic Places nominations authored, and a variety of other feasibility studies, design work, and preservation tax credit consulting.

KW Garner works with private individuals, large and small non-profit organizations, municipalities and private businesses. Garner is a prequalified historic preservation consultant for both the Indiana and Michigan State Historic Preservation Offices, and for the Indiana Department of Transportation. Garner considers his work a way to honor those who came before us and the legacy we leave those who come after.
