Scenic Byway/Corridor Management Planning
KW Garner is involved in Indiana’s State Scenic Byway program both as a private consultant and as co-founder of the Historic Michigan Road State Byway. Garner has developed nominations and/or corridor management plans for the last three of Indiana’s eight state scenic byways. Byways and corridor management plans assess historic and cultural resources along a specific corridor or roadway, then link these together as a driving experience promoting tourism and economic development.
The Historic Michigan Road, from Madison to Michigan City, as well as both routes of the Lincoln Highway in northern Indiana were projects for which both scenic byway applications and corridor management plans were developed by KW Garner. Between 2016 and 2020, the Hoosier Hills Scenic Byway became the eighth byway in Indiana. Garner worked with INDOT, local tourism, and government offices in Jackson, Brown, Morgan, and Hendricks Counties to create a byway celebrating the region’s rich scenic and cultural heritage.
